Dr. Elena Alonso completed her high school studies at the I.E.S. Chapatal in Santa Cruz of Tenerife with Honors. In 2006, she obtained her First Degree in Dentistry from the Complutense University of Madrid. Then, she moved to Tenerife where she practised as general dentist, working in clinics of recognized prestige for nine years. Meanwhile, she carried out numerous courses in Madrid and Barcelona on Dental Esthetics (Dr. Autran and Dr. Hirata), Endodontics (Dr. Elías Harran), Surgery (Dr. Gay Escoda), Periodontics, Prostheses and Occlusion. In 2012, due to her passion for children’s speciality, she decided to carry out a postgraduate degree in Pediatric Dentistry at the Catalan Society of Dentistry and Stomatology, under the direction of Dr. Patricia Gatón.
Since then, she became a member of the Spanish Society of Pediatric Dentistry, being an active participant through the presentation of oral communications and posters. For this reason, since that date, she has devoted herself, almost exclusively, to the treatment of infantile patients. As a result, in 2015, she decided to move to Barcelona in order to complete the Master of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Barcelona. It lasted two years and it was under the direction of Dr. Boj. This way, she managed to achieve the full specialization.
Throughout her master’s degree, she had numerous rotations in different hospital facilities. She went through the Hospital of Bellvitge, the Dental Hospital of the University of Barcelona, the Children’s Hospital and the San Juan de Dios Maternal and Child Hospital in Barcelona, under the direction of Dr. Cahuana, Dr. Brunet and Dr. Rivera.
As a result, she learned the dental treatment of children in a clinical and hospital environment. She developed knowledge in children with special needs, performing advanced techniques thanks to sedation and general anesthesia. During her last year of the Master’s degree, she also carried out a clinical residency at the Dr. Boj’s office, Professor in Dentistry and the Director of the master. She worked at the Dentistry area of the Quiron Hospital, also directed by Dr. Boj, and she finished her specialty in 2017, getting the extraordinary prize upon graduation.
Nowadays, she works in the Dentistry Unit of the San Juan de Dios Hospital in Tenerife, SJD dentists, and at its clinics in La Laguna and Las Chafiras. She also continues collaborating with the San Juan de Dios Hospital in Barcelona.
